ABSTRACT

This study was carried out to examine the migration , occupation, and settlement of the Alago people of Nassarawa state. Specifically, the study examined  nature, origin and character of the movement and settlement patterns of the Alago people of Nasarawa State, and examine the causes of their migration to their present settlement.the study also examined , socio-political and economic contribution of the ethnic group to the making of Nasarawa State.and finally, The study  put in proper perspective the exact position and place the various Alago people (settlements) in history, within Nasarawa society, as well as to understand the socio-economic relations of the people with their neigbours as a roadmap for national development. From the responses obtained and analysed, the findings revealed that That the Alago people had a working socio- political organization and strong economic activities, especially woven of traditional attires. Also,  That the Alago people had social relations with her neighbour the Idomas, Jukun, Tiv, Agatu and Kanuri. Furthermore,  that The Alago people migrated from the Jukun empire North , down to the Benue confluence. The study recommend That this study should be opened for further research in other for a better understanding of the migration ,occupation and settlement of the Alago people of Nassarawa state.
